Manage your subscription
Upgrading, the billing portal, switching cadence, cancelling, and what happens when a payment fails.
Billing runs through Stripe. DiffGuardian never sees or stores your card details — you enter them on Stripe's own hosted pages.
#Upgrading to Pro
- Choose Upgrade in the app, or the Pro plan on the pricing section of the homepage.
- Pick a billing cadence — $8 a month or $80 a year (ten months' price for twelve, about $6.67 a month).
- You are redirected to Stripe Checkout. Complete payment there.
- You land back on DiffGuardian's confirmation page and can return to the app.
Your plan is applied as soon as Stripe confirms the payment. The desktop app refreshes your plan in the background, so Pro features unlock without a restart — the surfaces that were prompting you to upgrade simply start working.
Checkout attempts are rate limited to a handful per hour per account. If you hit the limit, wait for the window to pass and try again — nothing has been charged.
#The billing portal
Everything after the first purchase happens in the Stripe billing portal, which you open from the app or from the team page:
- Update the card on file
- Switch between monthly and annual
- Download invoices and receipts
- Cancel the subscription
#Cancelling
Cancel from the billing portal. You keep Pro until the end of the period you have already paid for, then the account returns to Basic. Nothing is deleted when you drop to Basic — your local index, knowledge bases, and settings stay on your machine; the Pro features simply stop being available.
#Failed payments
If a payment fails, Stripe retries on its own schedule and the account is marked past due. You keep access while Stripe is retrying. Fix the card in the billing portal to resolve it. If the subscription is ultimately cancelled, the account returns to Basic.
